This excellent guest/working ranch is nestled at the base of Spencer Mountain, between two pine-covered ridges and located on Spencer Lake just near the bustling town of Whitefish, gateway to Glacier National Park. The exceptional horseback-riding program is the ranch’s main attraction and includes hundreds of thousands of acres to explore. You'll ride in the mountains, over the foothills and across the open prairies of Montana Big Sky country. The horse riding is varied from mountain scenic rides with fantastic views to faster rides across the wide open prairies, as well as arena games such as barrel racing, and team penning with the cattle etc.
The horseback riding in the mountains is normally more deliberate with attention paid to moving up and down in elevation while keeping an eye open for wildlife and the next spectacular view of the mountains, lakes or valleys just ahead. Riding the meadows and pastures is generally a more aggressive faster ride, moving through more open country with a trot or a lope thrown in.When not riding there are many other activities including fishing, mountain biking, boating or swimming in the lake, hiking, wagon rides, shooting and archery, plus many more activities.
There are three types of lodging for guests, with the option to stay in a traditional western style lodge, intimate and rustic cabin suites, or one-of-a-kind Glamping tents. Each accommodation provides a different and unique experience and they nearly all have their own private facilities. The main lodge is 6,200 square feet of classic elegance and traditional western informality, with 6 bedrooms, three common spaces, and a game parlour.
There is no shortage of great views from the decks that overlook the back horse pasture, the arena and the wildlife rich wetlands surrounding Spencer Lake. The ranch offers home cooked ranch meals may include Montana raised beef, homemade soups and salads as well as great desserts. The ranch does not sell/serve any alcohol but guests are welcome to bring their own or ask about arranging a ride to town if you need to make a trip to the liquor store.
