The ranch is located in the beautiful Big Sky area, less than 20 miles from the famous Yellowstone National Park. The ranch provides a warm, relaxed western atmosphere with just the right creature comforts to help guests "get away from it all" in their special ranch home. The ranch prides itself on its excellent riding program and whether you are horseback riding on the ranch, in the bordering Lee Metcalf Wilderness or Gallatin National Forest or in Yellowstone National Park, all of your riding takes place in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. For over a century, Lone Mountain Ranch’s team of horses has brought ranchers and visitors into parts of the backcountry that are otherwise unseen and untouched. The ranch can cater for all levels of ability and the rides are limited to a few riders per wrangler so the wranglers are able to provide more specialized attention informing guests about the area and what they are seeing along the ride.
Summer is family time at the ranch, with activities for all ages. Explore mountain ranges atop a horse - truly a western adventure. Join guided hikes for all ability levels and learn about the wildlife, wild-flowers, geology and history of this part of the world. Tours into Yellowstone give guests a unique perspective on the natural wonders of our first national park and the birds and wildlife living there. Mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking and canoeing are another way to experience the world around Big Sky and for the less active there is always the hot tub, massage and spa treatments!
The ranch has an excellent children’s program for ages 6 -17 years. The accommodations are cosy log cabins all with their own private facilities. They are all decorated in true western fashion with featherbeds, down comforters, and western furnishings making it a comfortable home away from home in the mountains of Montana.
Meal times at the ranch are a real highlight and of true gourmet standard, where local product is used whenever possible. Summer outdoor BBQs are a fun time to sit under a Montana sky and enjoy some delectable western ranch food. The ranch does have a wonderful saloon where guests can get the well earned refreshing drink after an activity filled day. Evening entertainment ranging from educational talks about the area, local musicians and even film nights are all on the agenda.
