Pakamisa private game reserve is situated in a pristine malaria free wilderness area of over 6000 acres. Access to the reserve is restricted, enabling guests at Pakamisa to enjoy the exclusive experience of natural African bushveld with its unparalleled abundance of wildlife and exotic vegetation. Guests may to see leopard, giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, red hartebeest, warthog, bushpig, kudu, nyala, impala, bushbuck, common reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, grey and red duiker, steenbuck, klipspringer, baboon as well as many smaller mammals, predators and reptiles. The bird life, too, is prolific and varied.

The original breeding stock or Arab horses were born and bred in Andalusia by Isabella von Stepski, renowned internationally as an Arabian expert. Isabella transported her entire stud from Spain to this special corner of Africa where these noble horses are thriving well.

Each of the trail rides provide incredible game viewing on horseback, while meandering through the plains and challenging climbs of the hills of Pakamisa Reserve. You may ride into a herd of impala or wildebeest and numerous warthogs might let you get close to them before trotting off. Guests can choose to do one riding safari plus a vehicle game drive or bush walk each day, additional riding safari’s are available at an extra charge.

Superbly located on the high plateau of the Pakamisa Mountain, Pakamisa Lodge affords breathtaking views over the evergreen valley and plains of the Pongola River and the surrounding mountains. Far away from any stress or hectic pace, you will appreciate and enjoy the exclusive, intimate atmosphere, especially as accommodation is limited to a maximum of 16 guests.

The unique Italian-Spanish architecture and style of the Pakamisa Lodge blends the finest of European and African ambience. Each suite, comprising a bedroom, lounge, deluxe-bathroom and own veranda, it is fully equipped with in-room electronic safe, mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities.Other activities are available, visit the pool terrace, also with spectacular views and offer guests an oasis of tranquillity, where light snacks and exotic drinks can be enjoyed after a refreshing swim in the large Rock Pool. Golf, fishing and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged at an additional cost. The Lodge offers fantastic cuisine of the highest standards served in the El Prado restaurant and pre-dinner drinks are available in the Hunter’s Bar.
